Today I had a rather queer conversation with my help,
It brought a wry smile to my face as she mopped away the kelp,
It went like this,
Didi, if I asked you something you won’t dismiss?
Go ahead I said,
How come in this house Bhaiya prays instead?
Aren’t girls supposed to pray?
I have only seen men who are pujaris who pray,
How come Bhaiya does and you don’t,
No such household I have known,
Well, I said, I do too,
But I have never seen you!
What can I say,
Perhaps I need to be more visible when I pray,
Perhaps then only God will heed,
And listen to my need!
